I keep trying to add these discursive, essayistic ideas to the video series I’m doing for Esquire about this Cape to Cairo trip — a series that is probably already too meandering and abstract for the format — and obviously have to keep cutting them. But the latest bit that I cut was a little thought bubble about the ways in which our experiences (while traveling, and otherwise) are informed by what we bring to them. How they mirror our states of mind, our mood, our familiarity with the subject, say.
